Sometimes we get so caught up in the day-to-day tasks of running a business that we forget to take time for ourselves.  It's important as a business owner and marketer to always try and improve yourself and learn new skills. The problem is, many people don't take the time to improve themselves personally or professionally, only looking at their company's needs instead of their own personal growth. If you’ve decided it’s time to start investing in YOU, we’ve decided to share some ways you can get started.

Identify your strengths, weaknesses, and what you do well

We all have strengths and weaknesses. It is important to identify them if you want to continue growing yourself and your company. What are your strengths? Can you think of any specific examples from the past few weeks that show how well you do something? What about a weakness? Take the time to sit down and try to find solutions to fill in the areas you need to improve.

Invest  in developing your skills

For many of us, being a business owner can be an extremely rewarding experience. It's also one that's not easy to balance with family life and other obligations. The more you're able to invest time into developing your skills as a business owner, the better off your company will be in the long-term.

A few ways you can start investing in yourself...

1) Read books about entrepreneurship by experts in the field - There are plenty of amazing books out there written by people who have had success both as entrepreneurs and investors.

2) Find a good podcast - We’ve been following a podcast by Studio Sherpas for years now. The show has reached 250 episodes - and includes interviews with other video producers as well as people who are just super successful in whatever their field is. Each episode always leaves us feeling inspired!

3) Expand your network - Just about everyone has social media these days...so take advantage of it! Maybe you’re inspired by the work of another person or business that’s similar to your own. Step out of your comfort zone and reach out to them. Ask them to go get a coffee - offer to pay if they let you pick their brain on some things.

Consider hiring an expert consultant who can help you with specific areas of expertise if necessary

We can’t all be good at everything, and that’s why it's ok to hire an expert to help you grow your business if they have the knowledge and skillset to do so. They know how to take your business from Point A to Point B without getting lost on the way there.

This can be especially helpful for those who are new entrepreneurs or don't have a lot of experience in business management. They're able to offer their expertise at a lower cost than hiring someone internally, who often has more overhead costs associated with them (e.g., benefits).

If you need help right now but don't want to commit long-term, experts are perfect for this! You get what you need when you need it without worrying about any commitment.

Make time for yourself outside of work

If you are not taking the time to improve yourself, then your business will suffer. It’s important to take care of both so that one does not negatively affect the other. Improving yourself can be as simple as reading a book, practicing self-care, or spending time with your family.

If you’re someone who doesn't take care of yourself and fails to invest in your own personal growth, it will be reflected in your business. You'll find that quality clients are harder to come by and the ones you do get don't stay as long or spend as much money with you. It's worth investing time into improving yourself so that you can improve your business!
